| | Modern forgery of experienced Greek circuit of counterfeiters. The professionals behind these products are well-known for exceptional hammered fake coins of ancient times. They attempted also to make forgeries on the late medieval/early modern period era, aiming clueless collectors. Thorough study, meticulous observation and constant attention is required for these counterfeit coins.
A close look on same type genuine coins [like the equivalent denomination on Ranieri's Auction 17 (24 April 2024), lot 354], along with examining the non genuine, can assist on understanding the forgeries. Stereoscopic observation with stereo-microscope is also required. The circuit of counterfeiters produced these forgeries with the exact same way (hammered coinage) as the people did in the medieval/early modern period. Off-style and completely different planchet.
Coin was graded somehow by PCGS with certification number 56470042. PCGS aknowledged their mistake and cancelled their certification on the coin.
Auction house was informed, but proceed on withddrawing it only after PCGS cancelled their certification.
Similar with the known fake and already uploaded coin at Forgery Network with no. 23088.
Further investigation and research is currently ongoing and will be published for all the non genuine venetian coins of this circuit of counterfeiters. |
